Pure Data Help HOWTO

Thursday January 3, 2008

After much ado about nothing, getting help for PD turns out to be blindingly simple, but I seriously didn’t discover this until about 6-7 weeks into my (PD-based) project. Attribution could probably go to my avid belief that pussyfooting about on the help menu gets you nowhere most of the time, but also because the most useful option on the help menu has negative connotations in my experience of it.

Whenever I come across the word “browser” in a program, I’m automatically associating it with some heinous Embedded internet explorer, or an oozing cessbowl of CHTML stylized rubbish. Contrarily, the “browser” button on the PD help menu brings up the most useful collection of examples and documentation you could ever hope to find for such a powerful program.

The pd docs are not the only option available to those who quake at the thought of getting down with the graphical programming colloquialisms.

Going through the “browser” shows that PD ships with ample documentation and examples – enough to satisfy perhaps the most avid of audiophilic technobeasts. Happy hunting.
